1`` x 50` Exhaust Wrap - Black

The first step in controlling underhood temperatures. This product is designed to keep heat in the exhaust and evacuate it out of the engine compartment. Wrapping your headers will reduce underhood temperatures by up to 50% while providing additional horsepower, engine protection and passenger comfort. All exhaust wraps are not alike! We start with a hi-temp fiberglass composite material then add a proprietary coating to enhance heat retention and expand durability. We are also the only manufacturer to add 1.25" guidelines to ensure proper installation without the guess work.

  • Reduce underhood temperatures a realistic 50%
  • Improves horsepower
  • Added durability and heat retention
  • Only wrap with installation guide lines
  • Rated at 1200 degrees direct / 2000 degrees radiant heat

    DEI Exhaust Wraps FAQ

Why do I want to wrap my headers, pipes or manifolds?
Wrapping any type of exhaust piping is a crucial and important step when controlling exhaust temperatures and reducing radiant under-hood heat by up to 50%. Keeping exhaust gases hotter within the exhaust system helps in decreasing density and increasing the flow of exhaust gases. This improves exhaust scavenging which, in turn, reduces intake temperatures for increased horsepower gains. Also, limiting the radiant heat trapped inside the engine bay decreases heat absorption through the fire wall which keeps dash components and cabin temperatures to a an absolute minimum.

What is exhaust wrap made of and does it contain asbestos?
DEI exhaust wrap rolls are primarily composed of composite fiberglass material that is treated with a proprietary coating developed by DEI to help increase the wraps thermal resistance when compared to the other brands. DEI wraps contain NO ASBESTOS!

Will wrapping my exhaust pipes make it rust?
If the exhaust pipe is made of mild steel, it may rust over time with or without exhaust wrap. If you are going to wrap any kind of steel pipe we recommend using our HT Silicone Coating to seal and protect the wrap and even the pipe you are wrapping. In addition, HT Silicone provides added thermal insulation and increases the longevity of your wrap.

Will the exhaust wrap work on my stock exhaust system?
Yes, it is perfectly compatible with all exhaust systems from Cast Iron to Stainless Steel. Not only that, but you can safely use the wrap on any kind of tubing metal or aluminum. This includes piping on an intercooler, turbo down pipe, air intake and intake manifold.

Why only a 1/4 inch overlap, isn't more better?
More is not always better when it comes to exhaust wrap. You can hold too much heat in the manifold to the point of changing the molecular structure of the metal. This can cause premature wear of the tubes or fractured welds, overlapping 1/4 inch is fine as this allows just enough heat out to ensure performance without damaging the exhaust.

Can I wet the wrap for installation?
Wetting the wrap is actually recommended as it will make the material more flexible and aid in a much tighter wrap. Be sure to let the wrap dry completely before applying the HT Silicone Spray.

How does my exhaust wrap stay in place?
The use of DEI's Stainless Steel Locking Ties is highly recommend to keep your exhaust in place and looking clean. It is also possible to use a stainless steel worm camp as well but generally not recommended.

Why should I purchase a kit when I just need the wrap?
To achieve a professional installation and maximum durability it is recommended to purchase the Exhaust Wrap Kit. It has enough material to cover a standard set of V8 headers, it also includes your choice of color of HT Silicone spray and assorted Stainless Steel Locking Ties. This will prevent multiple trips to the auto parts store.

    The Q&A on this Product
QUESTION:  Can I spray the wraps with silicone spray, let dry and then apply? I am fitting my wraps whole the pipes are still on the bike. Or do you think I should install and then apply the silicone with a paint brush? Thanks
ANSWER:  Apply HT Silicone Coating Spray after the wrap is installed.
QUESTION:  Can I paint the pipe with ht paint before wrapping, and also after wrapping
ANSWER:  Yes, it is common practise to put the silicone both under and over the exhaust wrap.
QUESTION:  Would it be recommended to use this Wrap on a Drz 400SM with Yoshimura full system?
ANSWER:  This is a universal exhaust wrap and you can use it with any manufacturer's exhaust. It will work well for your application
QUESTION:  hello. I want to wrap my e39 m5 v8, how much wrap do i need for this job?.
ANSWER:  We recommend the Exhaust/Header Wrap Kit - with Aluminum Silicone HT Coating Item #: 010112.
QUESTION:  my wrap is fading as well...when wet and due to engine heat it becomes lighter....is there a type of spray (color black) that can be sprayed on to give it a deep black color again?
ANSWER:  We sell a Black High Temp Silicone Spray that is just what you need. Look in the Exhaust Wrap category for Item #: 010301.
QUESTION:  Hi ,How long will the shipping take Shiped to Quebec/Canada ? and How Much is it ?! Thanks Frank
ANSWER:  International orders are shipped via US Postal Service Express Mail, 5-7 days to Quebec is my guess. The shopping cart will calculate your shipping when you check out based on your total order.
QUESTION:  Will all colored wrap fade over time. The last wrap I used now looks like a zebra, not fading evenly, but very striped looking. Is this normal or a defect.
ANSWER:  This sounds like a defect. Our wrap will not fade into zebra stripes. It barely fades at all.
QUESTION:  can I wrap the muffler on a 35 hp Briggs and Stratton engine and then secure a metal heat shield over the wrap ?
ANSWER:  Yes, Exhaust Wrap works on any exhaust system. Note that an air gap of at least 2 mm is necessary between the outer surface of the wrap and the heat shield and that the heat shield must be stood off of the assembly by non-thermally conductive spacers for it to be effective. If heat can travel to the shield via conduction, it is ineffective.
QUESTION:  I'm thinking about getting wrapping my headers on my 4 cylinder motorcycle. In your experience, in general, what is a good length of wrap for cycle headers?
ANSWER:  Motorcycle headers and wrapping techniques vary widely, as do clearances around the header and methods of securing, making exact measurement difficult.. If you buy a 15' roll, it will not be enough. The next size up is 50' and this is the amount you should obtain before starting the job - it will be enough, running short is the problem. Remember to buy enough safety wire or stainless steel tie wraps for the job. I use a combination of both with great success. Coating with a hi-temp material for long wrap life is mandatory - water getting into unprotected wrap explodes out of it under heat as steam, ruining your wrapping job.
QUESTION:  do you also ship it overseas to Holland and what does it cost me to get it in holland
ANSWER:  We do ship to Holland. Shipping is $43.25 extra.
QUESTION:  Is it okay to use the wrap on titanium exhaust systems? Also would i wrap from the cylinder head all the way up to the muffler? Will 1500 degree wrap be enough? This is for an atv.
ANSWER:  Yes, this will work very well on a titanium exhaust system. The more you wrap the more heat you will force out the tail and the better performance you will get. Let me put it to you line this: it is illegal to wrap the exhaust in the Superstock class in AMA roadracing and that is because it adds performance. Yes, the 1500 degree wrap will work well.
QUESTION:  Hi, I plan to wrap my cobra pipes on my mototrcycle. I want to know how much wrap (2") to purchase. Any guidlines...?
ANSWER:  It depends a great deal on how much of the pipe is single pipe wrap and how much is wrapped around more than one pipe at a time, and if you want to wrap the entire exhaust for maximum power and efficiency, or if you just want to wrap a couple of exposed sections to protect from heat. My recommendation is to get a 50' roll, it will easily do an entire 4 cylinder header. Don't forget to order the stainless steel tie wraps!
